Postcard writing meeting 10/10/25 Notes
Notes from 10/10/2025 DSG Writing group mtg:
(Attendees: please add or revise anything I've left out)
(1) In the Current postcard project ( Supporting VA gubernatorial candidate former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger ) , all of the 200 postcards were committed to 20 volunteers most of the logisitcs now seem to be understood and working.
REMINDERS:
(a) Instructions say to print the message not to write in cursive
(b) Mail the postcards on or near 10/24.
(2) Recent news of Spanberger campaign: https://www.fox5dc.com/news/
(3) Next task for those choosing to take it on: Write a letter to our Congressional representatives expressing alarm about proposed changes to Medicare. Rough Draft of one example pasted in below. Letter could be sent
(a) through the Senators and Representatives websites; or (b) through the links in the Alliance for Retired Americans fact sheets (attached here) (or likely through other organizations that may be advocating on this issue)
(4) Appeal to everyone: Research a writing topic, method, organizational connections, logistics .... and propose to the group at any time (by email, person-to-person, whatever works). We'll figure out a way to decide what we'll do when, but we need ideas .... We could have multiple projects going on at the same time.
(5) How to draft your own letter. Several people had used one or another AI apps to perform writing tasks, and suggested that using AI for the letter-writing task was entirely possible, with readable, effective results.
(6) Alternate ways of communicating with decision-makers were suggested by several for our later work (suggested: if you have time, try out one or both to see what advantages they might give us). :
(a) https://resist.bot/ "Resistbot is the chatbot that turns your texts into faxes, postal mail, or emails to your representatives in minutes. .Text the word resist to 50409 on your mobile phone or use our web bot and answer the questions texted back. In minutes, you’ll have contacted Congress or your other elected officials. Make your letter open for maximum effect."
(b) https://5calls.org/ "55555" or "5 Calls" "Make Your Voice Heard. 5 Calls is the easiest and most effective way for U.S. constituents to make a political impact."
(7) Reminder to report to DSG general so people who want to write but not yet on our list will get connected.
